“Being an artist (and minority), it’s easy to feel isolated and alone with my thoughts. So, it’s nice to be reminded that there are others working with similar ideas and struggling to distill thoughts into art.” -- Mik Gaspay
LOS ANGELES, CA (June 9, 2014) -- The Center for Art and Thought (CA+T), a web-based arts and education nonprofit organization, announces the launch of an online donation campaign: the "Support the Center for Art and Thought and foster the exchange of art and ideas" Fundraiser. The fundraiser will run for just over one month (Tuesday, June 10- Thursday, July 17) on Indiegogo.com (http://igg.me/at/supportcat/x).
In early August 2013, the Center for Art and Thought launched its website (www.centerforartandthought.org), which features virtual exhibitions, commissioned original works, publications, and more. The site is a free resource of creative and scholarly content educating a wider public about Filipino diasporic cultures and about the global trends and conditions that shape not only Filipinos’ experiences but all citizens of an increasingly globalized world.
In less than a year since its launch, CA+T has made a deep impact on users and contributors. The website has hosted three virtual exhibitions and sponsored three original commissioned works, and the Artist in Residence program has been especially innovative. In addition to strategic partners Behavior Design winning 2013 Horizon Interactive and 2014 AVA Digital Awards for their work on the website, CA+T reaches more than 5000 people worldwide a month, and contributors and users alike express gratitude and relief for the community this virtual hub creates. As artist Mik Gaspay said, “Being an artist (and minority), it’s easy to feel isolated and alone with my thoughts. So, it’s nice to be reminded that there are others working with similar ideas and struggling to distill thoughts into art.” CA+T is delighted to be a part of this shared community with Mik and other artists and users.
While CA+T actively pursues grant opportunities, it is still building the track record that attracts major donors. Thus, in line with the nonprofit's mission to harness the potential of new media and digital technologies, CA+T is using online crowdfunding platform, Indiegogo.com, for this fundraiser. The "Support the Center for Art and Thought and foster the exchange of art and ideas" Fundraiser enables donors to play an active part in CA+T's growth by funding the organization’s general operating costs. Because CA+T is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, all donations are tax deductible!
